Chuck, Kris, Larry, Lola, Marti, Mike, and Paul met for lunch and discussion about the Club’s future at MCL.  Much of that conversation focused on the Foundation’s assets and how to best utilize them.  There was a unanimous decision to seriously explore rolling-over those funds into the Lafayette Community Foundation which would then assume responsibility for dispersing net income in the manner proscribed by the Club.  To confirm that would be a wise option, Candy Silver has agreed to attend our scheduled meeting at MCL on Sept. 27; we will have no meetings on Sept. 13 or 20.

Preliminary recruitment efforts by Kris and Chuck have been unsuccessful and they (and others present) concluded the previously planned “Recruitment Day” to be assisted by District officers had almost no chance of success; therefore that activity originally planned for Sept. 21 has been cancelled.  The consensus was that we are/were going to be unable to recruit new members with commitment and energy to maintain a fully active Club.  Thus, the reason for the major focus on how to best utilize Foundation assets in a form consistent with expectations that former major donors expected and endowment that would have perpetual impact.  In addition to canceling recruitment efforts, we decided:

1.     We will establish a Freedom Wall exhibit at the Beck Lane B&G Club.

2.     We will not be giving a 2017 Golden Deeds Award this year.

3.     We will not sell Koeze Nuts this year.

4.     The Marine Stand-down event did not desire to allow us to add a Field of Flags.

5.     We are still expecting to co-sponsor with the Legion a Casino Night fund raiser to support veterans and the Lyn Treece Boys and Girls Club on the evening of Oct. 21.

As announced in the June 21 Horntooter, our Salvation Army bell ringing service project will be Nov. 25 inside at the Tippecanoe Mall in front of Kohls.  Current participation commitments include 1-hr slots for Paul & Khloe at 10 AM, Larry & Lola at 11 AM, Chuck at Noon, Mike at 1 PM, Marti at 2 PM, and Verle at 3 PM.  If anyone else desires to participate, we will schedule a later slot(s).
